Art World Happenings: July 2025

Agora Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition of new works by artist Mark Schiff at Booth 219 during the Hamptons Fine Art Fair, taking place July 10–13, 2025 at the Southampton Fairgrounds. This marks an exciting opportunity for collectors and art enthusiasts to engage with Schiff’s dynamic paintings in a focused solo presentation that underscores the evolution and range of his practice. Known for his expressive use of acrylic, oil, and mixed textures, Mark Schiff captures the emotional essence of his global travels and inner life through bold, abstract compositions. His work pulses with color and energy, shaped by a lifetime of cross-cultural experiences and grounded in a belief in art’s transformative power.

With Quiet Drama, Milt Kobayashi presents a new series of figure paintings marked by subtle  tension and spatial restraint. His subjects, often women seen in private moments of reflection, are  rendered in oil with delicate brushwork and a palette that leans toward muted earth tones.  Kobayashi favors asymmetrical compositions and the suggestive power of negative space,  allowing the viewer’s attention to rest on posture, gesture, and atmosphere rather than narrative.  His surfaces are quietly layered, with each passage of paint carrying the memory of prior  decisions. The result is a body of work that feels self-contained, composed with precision and  quiet intensity.

Munson Museum of Art in Utica, N.Y., presents the extraordinary artwork of contemporary artist Karen LaMonte, one of the most celebrated sculptors of our time, in a comprehensive exhibition, Celestial Bodies: Sculpture by Karen LaMonte, now on view through Dec. 31, 2025. Celestial Bodies will explore LaMonte’s career working in diverse mediums to create award-winning sculptures in porcelain, bronze, glass, and stone. Celestial Bodies is an expansive array of about 60 figures and forms, which not only reflects LaMonte’s life and career but her artistic soul as well. Her body of work follows an interest in the nature of life, connecting ideas of timeless beauty and femininity to both strength and fragility.
